Cardboard Engineers is an 8-week, hands-on engineering class for students in grades 3 through 5.
Each 60-minute session features a new project and introduces a skill that builds on the last.
All materials are included.
Students use the Engineering Design Process every session: define the problem, plan before cutting, build, test, and improve.
What we make:
Week 1: Name Plate — Design a sign for a bedroom door or desk.
Week 2: Picture Frame — Build a frame that stands on its own.
Week 3: Spectator Hat — Create sun protection and team spirit for an outdoor game.
Week 4: Mini Mailbox — Build a working door and flag, your first moving part.
Week 5: Pencil Holder — Build a holder for at least 12 colored pencils upright.
Week 6: Wristband or Cuff — Create your first wearable build.
Week 7: Wallet or Coin Purse — Make something you can actually use.
Week 8: Your Shoe — Design a shoe for a specific function, sized to fit your own foot.
Tools and materials include kid-safe ChompSaws, hot glue guns, cardboard, tempera paint sticks, maker materials, and safety gloves. Students receive direct safety instruction from day one.
Policies: Missed classes are non-refundable and cannot be made up. A minimum of 18 students is required for the session to run. If minimum enrollment is not met, the session will be cancelled and all fees fully refunded.
